RIC Energy has been selected in the first position as a beneficiary in the final resolution of the I Call for Hydrogen Valleys with its Compostilla Green project, a strategic initiative located in the El Bayo Industrial Park, in Cubillos del Sil (León, Spain). This recognition confirms the company’s commitment to the development of sustainable energy solutions and positions Compostilla Green as one of the first eSAF (sustainable aviation fuel) plants in Spain.
The project will receive more than 81 million euros through this public aid from IDAE within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Funded by the European Union – Next GenerationEU. It involves a total investment of 700 million euros and will have the capacity to produce 60,000 tons of green kerosene annually from renewable hydrogen and captured biogenic CO₂. “It is a great step to have been selected in this first call, which allows us to continue advancing in our mission to promote the reindustrialization of key areas through the development of sustainable aviation fuels,” said Pablo García-Salmones, Hydrogen Director at RIC Energy. “This allows us to advance our position as leaders in eSAF at the Spanish and European level,” he adds.
In addition to its environmental contribution, Compostilla Green will generate a notable socioeconomic impact in the Bierzo region and in Castilla y León. During its construction, more than 2,000 direct jobs will be created, and once operational, the plant will generate 240 stable jobs. This is in addition to more than 6,000 indirect and induced jobs, contributing to the dynamization of the local economy and the strengthening of the industrial and technological fabric.
This milestone reinforces RIC Energy’s role as a key player in the Hydrogen Valleys Alliance ecosystem. “Compostilla Green is, ultimately, a country bet: a project with a transformative vocation that accelerates the energy transition, promotes green reindustrialization, and positions Spain as a benchmark in the production of sustainable aviation fuels,” says José Luis Moya, CEO of RIC Energy.
