COMPOSTILLA GREEN

A strategic industrial project for the production of synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF), designed to position Spain and Europe at the forefront of air transport decarbonization.

Project
Overview

Compostilla Green is an industrial project to be developed in Cubillos del Sil (León, Spain) aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuels (e-SAF) from renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂. The initiative combines technological innovation with regional development, with the goal of decarbonizing air transport while contributing to the reindustrialization of the Bierzo region through stable economic activity and skilled employment.

The project integrates two key facilities: a 250 MW renewable hydrogen plant, capable of producing approximately 38,000 tonnes per year, and an e-SAF plant that will convert this hydrogen, together with captured CO₂, into around 60,000 tonnes per year of sustainable fuel. These fuels are fully compatible with existing aircraft and enable significant emissions reductions in the aviation sector, in line with European decarbonization targets.

Located in the El Bayo Industrial Park on previously designated industrial land, Compostilla Green ensures efficient deployment with controlled environmental and territorial impact. Beyond its climate contribution, the project will generate employment and economic activity in the area, with around 240 direct jobs during operation, reinforcing Bierzo’s role as an industrial hub linked to the energy transition.
