A strategic industrial project focused on the production of synthetic sustainable aviation fuels (e-SAF), created with the aim of decarbonizing the aviation sector.
Besaya Green is an industrial project to be developed in Torrelavega (Cantabria, Spain) aimed at producing renewable hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels (e-SAF), located on the site of the former SNIACE factory. This site, historically a key economic driver for the Besaya region, is entering a new phase linked to the energy transition, combining reindustrialization, innovation, and the reuse of existing industrial land.
The complex will include a 250 MW electrolysis plant, capable of producing approximately 38,000 tonnes per year of renewable hydrogen. This hydrogen will be combined with biogenic CO₂ to produce sustainable fuels for aviation, contributing to the decarbonization of the sector in line with European targets. The project will be fully developed on consolidated industrial land, leveraging existing infrastructure and minimizing territorial impact.
With an investment exceeding €1 billion, Besaya Green will have a significant socio-economic impact in the region, generating thousands of jobs during construction and around 240 direct jobs during operation. The project strengthens Cantabria’s role in the emerging renewable hydrogen value chain and positions the Besaya region as a leading industrial hub in the energy transition.
